Construction has begun on the first of 4 planned volumetric-build apartments schemes in Dublin 8. When completed, Bonham Park on Bonham Street will include 57 no. apartments, comprising 26 no. one-bed, 26 no. two-bed and 5 no. three-bed units, together with 3 no. multi-purpose units for community and enterprise uses all set around a landscaped courtyard and play areas. The apartments will cater for people on the City Council’s social housing list.
The housing is being developed under special emergency powers under the Housing Act, meaning that it has not gone through the conventional planning process for local authority projects, but was approved by city councillors in July.
Site clearance has now commenced and main construction work will start shortly. The expected build time is 12 months. The housing scheme will complement planned work to development a new park at Bridgefoot Street, which is also expected to commence later next month.
The scheme is designed and built by a team including Levitt Bernstein Architects, ABK Architects and Curtins Consulting for Dublin City Council Housing Department.
