The Liberties Weavers established in 2018 as an initiative to rediscover one of the most important trades, historically, in The Liberties. Founded by Marja Almqvist and Cathy Scuffil, an initial workshop has now grown into a project dedicated to developing knowledge of the craft of weaving in the area. Activities include organising weaving classes, community workshops (online and face to face), exhibitions and historical lectures for local residents and visitors to our area. The Liberties Weavers have also developed a fascinating self-guided tour of The Liberties, highlighting its weaving past – a great way to discover the story of this area for yourself.
