Homeless Shelter on Thomas Street

23.11.15

Life

The homeless issue in Dublin has reached crisis levels with a number of serious incidents occurring in 2014 and 2015. To help combat this the Cold Weather Initiative 2015-2016 has organised a new homeless shelter in a disused building in The Digital Hub on Thomas Street.

The aim of the homeless shelter is to prevent fatalities and/or serious harm to those rough sleeping in cold weather, and to have a variety of additional option for people who do not or can not avail of existing homeless services.

100 beds will be provided at this newly refurbished unit which is being run by Cross Care. Hot meals and showers will be a part of the provision. The facility will be open from mid-November until Friday 1st April 2016. To avoid disruption to the area bookings must be made in advance to stay in the shelter, with check-in times arranged in advance.
