30.10.26
The regeneration of the Digital Hub lands either side of Thomas Street has taken a major step forward with the publishing of plans for the site. The Land Development Agency (LDA) is now charged with developing the historic campus into a vibrant new neighbourhood of homes and amenties.
‘Pear Tree Crossing’ is the working name for the site, which is bounded by Watling Street, Thomas Street and Bonham Street, as well as Rainsford Street, Crane Street, School Street and Thomas Court.
The latest version of the masterplan proposes over 700 homes in a mix of social, cost rental and older persons housing. In addition the site will have new community spaces, a creche, commercial spaces and new public areas and amenities.
The reinstatement of Thomas Street is a key feature of the scheme, with the historic 18th and 19thC buildings along the street retained and restored and sympathetic new infill proposed.
A new public space will be created around the historic St Patrick’s Tower, while new walkways and internal streets will create permeability through the area.
The LDA expects to lodge the first planning application for the site by the end of the year or in early 2027.
In advance of this, a public information event is being held on Thursday 12th November from 12:00 to 7:30pm, offering the public a chance to view and discuss the plans. The venue is the Gate Lodge in Digital Depot off Thomas Street.
