A clutch of new restaurant openings on Thomas Street this year is transforming the thoroughfare. Over the past few years, the street has offered an increasing array of great independent coffee shops, a famous bakehouse and some great pub grub, however 2019 has seen things step up a notch with the number of recommended restaurants and stylish eateries on the street growing.

Variety Jones opened at 78 Thomas Street at the start of the year to rave reviews and has been a busy evening spot ever since. Proof Pizza & Punch took the iconic shopfront of the former Frawleys and created a smart new cafe and pizza parlour with the novel addition of cocktails on tap. Its also Dublin’s first bombolini cafe!

In recent weeks, pizza has gotten altogether quirkier with new arrival The Lab at 54 Thomas Street. The decor is urban chic, the sourdough is homemade and the toppings are downright exotic. The Lab offers lunch and dining.

Further along Thomas Street, Vandal at The Masonry is a stunning new eating space set around a glass covered courtyard. The restaurant serves modern tasty treats for breakfast, lunch and brunch. In time, Vandal hopes to open into the evening.

Wander further along to James’s Street and you can try out lunchtime favourite Ground State and soon to open Coffee District alongside St James’s Hospital.

It all makes for a frankly delicious walk along Dublin’s favourite street!*
