Dublin 8 Business Leading the Field at Design Awards

Two local designers success in digital design and design education and research categories

Its always great to see Dublin 8 businesses doing well. There were two local winners of this year’s Institute of Designers Ireland, IDI Awards, which took place on Thursday November 16th. The awards recognise excellence in Irish design across business, culture and creativity.

OPEN Design & Digital took home the Website Update Award for their work with the National Leprechaun Museum (NLM). In recent years, the Museum’s website became outdated and OPEN Digital revitalised the website to fully showcase the storytelling, art and folklore traditions in Ireland to attract more visitors to the Museum. Using tradition symbols of Irish mythology, such as the hare, which is associated with fairies and druids in Irish lore, OPEN Design & Digital developed an engaging and entertaining website for the NLM. Separately, NCAD won the Award for Design, Education & Research for a collaborative project titled Sim-U-Skin. An estimated 15-20% of GP consultations relate specifically to skin, yet it is recognised internationally that GPs generally lack adequate training in dermatology. Sim-U-Skin addresses this problem with a product that allows students and GPs to apply their learning on models of skin conditions, which in turn drives confidence among students and practitioners and allows them to effectively treat patients rather than referring them to hospital waiting lists. It’s an incredible development that truly shows how challenges can be overcome through design and innovation.

Congratulations to both!
