Life, Visit

The Irish Baroque Orchestra presents Dublin HandelFest in partnership with the Office of Public Works. The festival comprises a digital walking tour, two concerts, and one showcase, and takes place from Friday, August 20th to Sunday, August 22nd online from Dublin Castle.
Handel’s visit to Dublin will forever be associated with the première of Messiah in 1742. However, Handel, who was attracted by the city’s vibrant music culture, had already moved over from London in 1741 to spend time re-working several pieces which received performances in Dublin. He enjoyed warm hospitality and kindness in the capital, and spoke of passing his time ‘with Honour, Profit and Pleasure’.
