South Central Community Remembers: 1916 Events Programme

Dublin 8, within the City’s South Central Area, played a significant role in the Easter Rising of 1916. Home to Kilmainham Gaol, Royal Hospital Kilmainham and Richmond Barracks, some of the main events of the Rising took place here. The Dublin South Central 2016 Centenary Programme, launched by Lord Mayor Críona Ní Dhálaigh, therefore contains a wealth of fascinating tours, talks and exhibitions.

Through the ‘1916 Rising Commemoration Fund for Communities’ Dublin City Council recognises the importance of placing communities at the heart of the commemorations. The financial support allows local community-based projects to raise awareness of the history of the Rising through the Arts, Seminars, Lectures, Exhibitions and re-enactments in 2016.

The South Central Team hope this programme of events will encourage you to remember and reflect on the events that changed the course of our history. View the full programme here.
