Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We’re super excited to see the spectacular Dublin Winter Lights extended into The Liberties this year, with illuminated displays at John’s Lane, St Patrick’s Tower Windmill and Crane Street. The lights were switched on last night and will remain on until January 1st.

In total 21 locations, in the form of 2 walking trails around the city, have been transformed with colourful projections and lighting displays. Five new locations have been added this year including here in The Liberties, and Merrion Square Park, the details of which will be launched very shortly.

This year photos of 76 people who work voluntarily in their local community will be rotated on the sails in Smithfield as part of the programme. Those featured include sports coaches, tidy towns volunteers, and charity workers.

In addition to Winter Lights, look out for the lighting of christmas trees across the area in coming weeks.  The main tree at Cornmarket will be unveiled on Tuesday 30th November, while trees are also ready to go at Pimlico and Dolphin’s Barn (on Tuesday 7th December). In addition, Teeling Distillery will also be lighting its now-traditional tree at Newmarket on 5th December.

Dublin Winter Lights is an initiative of Dublin City Council.
