The Irish Architectural Foundation is hosting a week-long programme of events, tours and activities to mark Open House Dublin 2023. Running between 7th and 15th October, this year’s festival, expands beyond the traditional weekend to bring added events, discussions and debates on architecture in the city.
And of course there is still the great opportunity to get behind the doors of the great and the good, to visit some the cities most iconic buildings, to see what’s new, and to have a good nosey around people’s fancy new extensions!
Here’s some of the highlights of the programme for The Liberties:
- Historic Kilmainham Mill, which is currently subject to a restoration project by Dublin City Council. A number of pre-booked limited access tours are being provided. More here.
- Nellie’s Flat, Bull Alley Housing Scheme – its a gem alright, a perfectly-preserved slice of Dublinia from the 1930. More here.
- St Audoen’s Church – Dublin’s oldest parish church still in use. Find out more about the current programme of restoration work to this medieval gem in the heart of the city. More here.
- The Liberties West End – join a walking tour looking at urban renewal in the western end of The Liberties. More here.
- The Tailors’ Hall – the city’s last surviving guild house and now the HQ to An Taisce. Explore this early 18thC gem. More here.
- A Home in the Tenters – a chance to see the modern reinvention of an early 20thC house on Clarence Mangan Street. More here.
- Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland. Explore one of the city’s most important civic buildings. More here.
- The Loom Student Housing, a new purpose built student accommodation centre on Cork Street. More here.
- Walk + Talk through Inchicore and Kilmainham. More here.
- A special exhibition of children’s artwork Reimagining the Iveagh Markets at the Tivoli Event Space on Francis Street. On Saturday 7th at 3pm, visitors to the exhibition will be treated to a special performance by 50 talented children in the local group Atomic Stage School. More here.
