Busconnects Update

Work is scheduled to commence on the latest phase of the Liffey Valley to City Centre Busconnects route, which passes along Mount Brown, James Street, Thomas Street and High Street.

The project is developing a new bus and active travel priority route and will see the reordering and reconstruction of the public realm along The Liberties’ primary thoroughfare over the coming 12-18 months.

The latest phase – James Street between the junctions with Bow Lane and Steeven’s Lane and Crane Street – is now schedule to commence at the end of August. The work will see:

• Changes to existing kerblines and full repaving to the building lines on both sides of the street
• New segregated cycle lanes
• Changes to existing parking and loading provision, largely removing parking along the route
• New ‘island’ bus stops and changes to bus stop locations
• Changes to traffic signals and crossings
• High quality paving and landscaping of the large island at Bow Lane junction

The work is expected to take 4-5 months. Further details of the works, sequencing, traffic management and liaison with businesses and residents will be announced shortly by GMC, the main works contractor.

The Liffey Valley to City Centre route is being done in phases, with detailed design currently underway for Thomas Street (from Crane Street to Cornmarket); Cornmarket itself, where a major reallignment of the existing junction is planned; and High Street. Work on these phases will take place in 2027.
