Meath Street is being transformed by a multi million euro investment in its public realm bring wider footpaths, landscaping, seating and improved pedestrian facilities to the iconic market street.

Construction work continues on Meath Street, as part of a significant revamp of the street. The current focus of construction is the section from the junction with Engine Alley and Meath Place to St Catherine’s Church, which is expected to be completed by November. This will include the reconstruction of the roadway, a portion of the planned trees for the street being planted, as well as new lighting, bins and seats.
This will mean approximately two-thirds of the street will be fully completed before a planned break in the construction programme for Christmas. Work will then being on the final northern portion of the street in early 2027.
Many of the new features on the street are already visible including Leinster granite detailing, new benches and the locations for trees. In total 16 trees are planned for the street – with beautiful sophora japonica (Japanese pagoda trees) chosen.
While most of the street has been paved in concrete flagstones, a substantial area around St Catherine’s Church will be paved in Leinster granite, improving the setting of the church.
Shops and premises along Meath Street have also been taking the opportunity to improve their shopfronts, while the newly widened footpaths have offered space for outdoor seating in front of pubs and cafes along the street.
The final element of the project will be a new specially-commissioned public artwork that will be installed on the street later in spring 2027. Further details of this exciting piece will be announced shortly.
