A modest makeover of the historic marketplace has brought space and colour
25.02.26
A refurbishment of the public realm of Newmarket has been completed by Dublin City Council. The phased project has seen traffic areas reduced and new pedestrian space created, improved surfaces and paving, and the installation of colourful new street furniture with trees, planting and seats. The new pedestrian area will provide space for events and activities to happen during the year, as well as being a place to relax and enjoy the good weather… when it finally arrives!
A new planter scheme, designed by Áit Urbanism + Landscapes, who are based on the square, brings a striking contemporary colour pallete to the public space, as well as a selection of year round colour from trees and planting.
The public realm improvements come as the last significant development site has been completed at 18 Newmarket, marking a remarkable 10 year tranformation of the square and nearby Mill Street. New residents and business are relocating to this historic marketplace, which had been an overlooked and largely disused light industrial area for many years.
