Return of the Jonathan Swift Festival: 21st to 24th November

The annual festival to mark the work and wit of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral’s most famous Dean, Jonathan Swift, runs this year from 21st to 24th November. A project of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, the Festival is now in its 3rd year with the theme of Georgian Dublin, Behind the Facade.

This year’s programme sets out to explore Jonathan Swift’s Dublin. So you can take a tour of the city themed around the Georgian period, taste food from the period in the spectacular surrounds of Dublin Castle, or have a go at singing Handel’s Messiah in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. There will be a huge variety of events for all interests and ages.

Supported by Failte Ireland, Dublin City Council and UNESCO City of Literature, the festival is a vibrant collaboration between a number of creative bodies and cultural institutions across the city who have a historic or cultural links to Jonathan Swift’s life and work.

A Georgian Lunch at Dublin Castle – lunch like a prince in the splendor of the State Apartments – 24th November

The Gorgeous Georges – exploring the decorative arts of the period through the collections of the National Museum – 23rd November

Georgian Dublin Decoded Walking Tour – Drama, books, publishing and music, in the time of Jonathan Swift – 23rd November

Jonathan Swift’s House – a rare chance to see inside The Deanery of St Patrick’s Cathedral – 23rd November

Casual Choir, Handel’s Messiah – Ready, steady….HAAAAAA LELUJAH!! – 24th November

Henrietta Street & Its Georgian Beginnings – Guided tours of No 14 – 23rd November

Swift & Vanessa – a play by Martina Reilly – 22nd November
