Life, Love The Liberties

Diageo Ireland has joined forces with celebrated artist Holly Pereira to launch the 17th annual Liberties Fun Run in support of St James’s Hospital Foundation. Open to runners and walkers of all levels, this year’s event features a bespoke medal, designed by Holly and commissioned by sponsors Diageo Ireland. Inspired by the energy, colour, and character of The Liberties, the medal pays homage to its iconic landmarks and serves as a meaningful keepsake for all who take part.

One of the oldest and only timed road races in the country, the four-mile route winds through some of Dublin 8’s most historic and beloved neighbourhoods, including Francis Street, The Coombe, Fatima, and the iconic St. James’s Gate brewery site, before finishing in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. This year’s run takes place on Wednesday 23rd July.

Best known for her bold, expressive murals, Holly Pereira reflected on her involvement in the project, which was commissioned by Diageo Ireland to encourage race sign-ups and help raise funds: “The Liberties has such a vibrant identity, and that’s what I wanted to capture in the design – bold, expressive, and colourful, with references to some of the area’s most iconic spots like St. James’s Gate and the Gray Street Monument. It’s been great to contribute something that will mark the experience for everyone taking part and raising funds.”

With roots in The Liberties dating back to 1759, Diageo Ireland’s connection to the area is intergenerational. The company’s continued support for The Liberties Festival reflects its long-standing commitment to community investment and celebrating the rich heritage of Dublin 8.

Speaking at the fundraisers launch, Aisling Nolan, Director of Development of St. James’s Hospital Foundation said: “The Liberties Fun Run is one of the most meaningful dates in our fundraising calendar. It brings people together in a powerful show of generosity and local pride, helping to enhance patient care at St. James’s Hospital. Thanks to Diageo Ireland’s continued support and the incredible spirit of our community, these events enable us to fund projects that make a real difference in patients’ lives.”

Organised by the St. James’s Hospital Foundation, the Liberties Fun Run attracts hundreds of participants each year including elite and fun runners and walkers- with all funds raised supporting patient services at St. James’s Hospital.

Entry costs €35 or is free for those who raise €200 or more in sponsorship. All participants will receive a limited-edition Holly Pereira-designed medal, exclusive to this year’s event.

Registration is now open at https://register.enthuse.com/ps/event/2025LibertiesFunRun.
