Dublin City Council is currently inviting applications to its Shop Front Improvement Scheme for 2021 across the south west city neighbourhoods of The Liberties, Dolphin’s Barn and Rialto, and Kilmainham, Islandbridge and Inchicore.
This is the 6th year of the successful scheme that has already assisted a wide range of retailers, small business owners and community organisations to enhance their premises and improve the quality of some of the capital’s most historic streets and urban villages.
Last year’s scheme – the most successful to date – supported over 30 projects, including repainting shop fronts, constructing new high quality fronts, refurbishing historic windows and other features and ‘greening’ shop fronts and seating areas, and saw over €250,000 of investment by businesses across the area.
The Shop Front Improvement Scheme offers grants covering 50% of the cost of eligible works up to a maximum grant of €3,000. Applicants are encouraged to adopt a best practice approach to their projects: using traditional materials that are appropriate to the building; favouring high quality signage such as painted letters or individually-mounted lettering; and retaining and restoring heritage features, where appropriate.
